A Summer Of Sport

The Summer of 2022 will be long remembered for many reasons, most notably the passing of Queen Elizabeth II, the record setting heatwave and the welcome return of large-scale outdoor events and festivals for the first time in 3 years!

Working predominantly with fellow print and signage partners, we’ve loved seeing the variety of large format print passing through our facility over the last 3 months. In addition to playing an important part of our customers’ print supply chain, we’re also proud to have been involved first-hand in 2 international sporting events.

UEFA Women’s EURO England 2022

With 4 games played at Bramall Lane (home of Sheffield United) over the course of the two-week event, including England’s memorable 4-0 semi-final win over Sweden, we were approached by Sheffield City Council to support their city dressing efforts for the event.

Working closely with our customer, we identified locations in close vicinity to the ground and high footfall areas in the city centre to install post mount systems with banners and 32 printed flags, designed to enhance spectator experience and increase the profile of the event.

When it came to choosing the right post mount system for the job, the AirSpring system was the clear choice, thanks to their superior aesthetics and durability. Importantly, this system fully complies with the Government Regulation EN40 which dictates the maximum wind load that any type of signage is allowed to exert onto a standard street lighting column.

In addition to the supply of 22 AirSpring systems, accompanying banners and printed Urbis flags (a bespoke flag designed to be installed on the irregular shaped lighting columns), the experienced Banner Box Installation Team were also commissioned to complete the installation and removal of the systems, ensuring a complete and hassle-free solution for our customer.

Thousands of Flags for Birmingham 2022

Throughout the latter part of June and the majority of July our printers were working overtime, printing more than 7,000 flags (in addition to our normal workload) in preparation for the Commonwealth Games hosted in Birmingham.

All the flags were prepared for printing by our in-house graphic design team before being digitally printed on knitted polyester using our EFI VUTEK FABRIVU340. With each flag measuring 1800mm (w) x 1200mm (h), this was the perfect machine for the project, allowing us to print at speed whilst maximising material yield.

Once the flags had been printed and heat pressed, they were cut using our 2 automated Zund cutters, the ideal machine for ensuring accuracy and speed. The flags were then finished by our expansive team of skilled sewing machinists, in time for one last quality check prior to packaging.

Thanks to our expertise in flags and printing combined with our impressive finishing capacity and capabilities, we produced over 7,000 flags in a little over 6 weeks, arriving with the event organisers with a few days to spare!

Rugby League World Cup 2021

The Rugby League World Cup 2021 will crisscross moors, mountains, historic towns and buzzing metropolitan cities, showcasing a diverse, welcoming culture and all that England has to offer. Originally scheduled to take place in 2021, the event fell victim to the uncertainty of COVID and was subsequently rescheduled for October 2022.

With the city of Sheffield chosen to host games in both the Men’s (Bramall Lane) and Wheelchair (EIS Sheffield) competitions, our print, hardware and installation services will once again be called upon to ensure the streets are appropriately decorated to welcome visitors to the steel city.
